1986 – 1987 Andrew Chu
Pres. Andrew led a delegation of 13 members from our Club in March 1987 attending the last District Conference in Taipei before the Rotary Clubs in Hong Kong and Macau Area had their own separate District.
This year marked the beginning of the First International Fund Raising Campaign initiated by Rotary International – Polio Plus. Our PDG Philip was appointed to be the Chairman of Hong Kong & Macau Area Committee, and National Co-ordinator by R.I.
Our luncheon meeting venue was moved to the New World Hotel.
Fellowship functions were very active. We had inter-Clubs visits with Rotary Club of Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung for dinner and luncheon.
Ladies Night at F.C.C. with Swiss Fondue and Chinese Hot Pot Dinner at Wing On Mess Hall. We would always remember the dinner at the Japanese Club in honour of our PP George, who was awarded Hon. O.B.E. by H.M. The Queen in the New Year Honour List.
Even though we lost the Best Attendance Award, our attendance for this year came up to an average of 74%.
With the Polio-Plus Campaign in full swing, our Pres. Andrew still managed to look after donations to the under-privileged. We continued to support the Inter-school TV Quiz.
Pres. Andrew and Rtnne. Josephine M. Lee became Paul Harris Fellows and Rtnne. Vilma Lai achieved 5-STAR.1987 – 1988
President Peter Lo – Membership: 44 – 40 Pres. Peter was very proud to say that our Club enjoyed a most successful year. Our Club was the first Club in our District to reach and beyond the “Polio-Plus” Club Goal. In the World National Committee of “Polio-Plus”, Area No. 11 of which our District 345 belonged, was the First to reach the target. Our Club had successfully nominated a District Governor-Nominee for 1989-90 (PP Joseph Lee).
Community Service – our Club donated to the New Horizon School in support of the Vietnamese Refugee Children. We also executed a project carried forward from last year by sponsoring the HK Society for Child Health and Development in publishing a booked called “Mind Your Language”. 30,000 copies have been printed for distribution to schools, government departments, social service agencies and individual parents. this Booklet was very popular. We continued to support the “TV Inter-school Quiz”, a joint Rotary project.
PDG Philip Lai, again following his Rtnne. Vilma, achieved “5-STAR”. Pres. Peter Lo and Rtn. Bill Chow together with Mr. Peter S.W. Lai, son of PDG Philip Lai, became Paul Harris Fellows.
This Rotary year marked the first year of New District 345 consisting of 26 Rotary Clubs in Hong Kong and Macau, with Rtn. Raymond Wong as the first District Governor.
